COLÁISTE Pobail Bheanntraí’s first and second-year basketball teams are on a roll right now.
So far, they have won three of the four titles available.
The Bantry school’s U14 girls’ team captured the BIPPS (Basketball Ireland Post-Primary Schools) South A title, as did their U15 girls’ team; both are coached by Frances Lane.

Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí’s U15 boys’ team, coached by Pat Curran, also powered to BIPPS South A title glory.
‘This is a massive achievement for our school, as these titles are rare enough, not to mind winning three in one year,’ Curran said.
‘The junior basketball season starts after Christmas, with each team playing five pool games in five weeks, followed by quarter-finals and semi-finals.
‘Our successful teams had a 100 percent record going into their finals. We were very unlucky not to add a fourth team – the U14 boys just lost out by a point in the semi-final to Midleton.’
The Bantry school’s U14 girls will travel to UL for the All-Ireland weekend. The U15 boys and girls have already played their All-Ireland last-16 ties – the girls saw off Pres Castleisland, while the boys recorded a great win against Mercy Mounthawk Tralee.
In the All-Ireland quarter-finals, both Bantry teams have been drawn away to the same opposition, Castleisland Community School.
