IT'S another year without a semi-final appearance for Clonakilty Community College as Tipperary school High School Clonmel got the better of them on a wet day in Pairc Ui Rinn.

This TUS Corn Uí Mhuirí quarter-final was largely decided by a dominant opening half from Clonmel in which they outscored the West Cork school 1-4 to 0-1.

In the very first play, Aaron McAndrew rattled the Clonakilty net inside just 90 seconds as good build-up play resulted in him finding space and burying it into the bottom corner.

Points from Luke Foley and Mikey McGuire increased Clonmel's lead to five on a tough day for football.

Tom Whooley took three of only five Clonakilty shots in the first-half and his score was Clon's only one in the opening period after 15 minutes.

Scores by McAndrew and McGuire put the south Tipp school into a commanding six-point lead at the break.

It was Clonakilty who looked the most threatening in the second-half but it was too little, too late.

Jack Byerley came on to add spark to the Cork school's attack and got a score along with Oisín Harrington to make it 1-5 to 0-3 after 44 minutes.

There was no score for 11 minutes but Clonakilty wing-back Jerry O'Leary had a big opportunity for a goal with five minutes left but his shot was brilliantly tipped over the bar by James O'Brien in the Clonmel goal. Not Clonakilty's day.

Oisín Harrington got his second of the half but it was a point by Conor Freaney of Clonmel that put the seal on their passage to the last four.
