Defending champions Clonakilty Soccer Club regained top spot in the West Cork League Premier Division after a ruthless 9-0 win over Baltimore at the weekend.

John Leahy’s side led 6-0 at half time thanks to goals from Odhran Bancroft, Joe Edmead (2), Chris Collins (2) and Rob Downey. They weren’t finished yet, and further strikes from Downey, Tomas Batterberry and Cal John O’Mahony in the second half completed the rout.

Clon and Drinagh Rangers have both won six and drawn one from their seven games, with Clon holding a slightly better goal difference, but only by four.

Elsewhere, Lyre Rovers held on to third place after a 3-1 win at home to Drinagh Rangers B. Early goals from Roy O’Driscoll and Donal Buckley set the tone for Rovers. Damien Fernandes did pull one back from the penalty spot for Drinagh at the start of the second half, but a Lyre penalty converted by Mark Kelly put the result beyond doubt.

Bay Rovers moved back on top of the Championship after a narrow 2-1 victory over Castlelack. Following a goalless first half, Paddy Cronin opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 50 minutes. Oisin O’Mahony equalised 20 minutes later, but an Alex Young strike five minutes after that put Bay back in front, and they held on to move a point clear of Beara United at the summit.

It was a second win in a row for Spartak Mossgrove as they climbed the table with a 2-1 victory over Bunratty United. Conor Brosnan gave Bunratty a 1-0 half-time advantage, but a brace from Jack Meade in the second period won the day for the boys from Newcestown.

Elsewhere, Ardfield are through to the next round of the Championship Cup after a 2-1 victory over Aultagh Celtic. They sit third in the second tier and continued their impressive start to the season as Jack Maguire and Niall Keane had them 2-0 up at the break. Aultagh got one back through Andy O’Sullivan in the last minute. Too little, too late.

Drinagh Rangers have opened up a six-point lead at the top of the Women’s 7s League after a comfortable 7-0 win against Bandon. A 4-0 half-time advantage put the game beyond reach as Aine Collins (2), Lorraine O’Neill and Rachel O’Donovan scored. O’Neill, O’Donovan and Chloe Cadogan added further goals in the second half.

It was a week of contrasting fortunes for Bandon, who also picked up their first win – a 3-0 success over Clonakilty United. Laura Brew struck a hat-trick for Bandon to leave them level on points with Clon and Mizen at the bottom.

Mizen were beaten 6-0 by Lyre Rovers, with Ellen Hall and Meadbh Coomey giving Rovers a 2-0 half-time lead. The winners added four more after the restart as Coomey, Mairead Connolly, Niamh Power and Erica Jennings all found the net.

Dunmanway Town are in second spot after a 3-0 win over Aultagh Celtic, with Claire McSweeney, Ellen Healy and Orlaith Hickey netting. It wasn’t the only defeat Aultagh endured last week, as Drinagh Rangers B beat them 2-1 thanks to a brace by Carmel Coakley. Katie Buttimer replied for Celtic.
