BRIAN Hurley knows what it’s like to play Division 1 football – and he’s delighted his Cork teammates will get to live that experience in 2027.
The Castlehaven sharpshooter came off the bench to kick 0-4, including an unusual two-pointer, as Cork beat Tyrone away, 0-22 to 0-19, to clinch promotion back to Division 1 for the first time in 10 years.
Ahead of the throw-in, Cork knew a win or draw in Omagh would guarantee promotion, and the Rebels got the job done.

‘Cork football needs to be back in Division 1, and that's coming from a player and a fan like myself. When I grew up Cork were always Division 1 so it's great to see the boys all the hard work pay off and we're back where we belong hopefully,’ Hurley said afterwards.
‘I started out in Division 1. Don't get me wrong, Division 2 is as tough as it gets, but you know when you're playing the top teams and All-Ireland contenders every day of the week, that's where you want to be.
‘I love challenging myself, the boys do too. And if you're going to be playing the best and marking the best, it'll bring you on a bit as well.’
