A CLONAKILTY  woman who had magic mushrooms at her home was ordered to pay €100 to the Court Poor Box.

Gardaí searched the home of Leanne Keary (30) at Fairfield Terrace, Clonakilty on November 15th 2024 and found a small amount of cannabis and €20 worth of psilocybin, also known as magic mushrooms. The court heard that she took responsibility for owning the mushrooms.

Barrister Patrick Horgan, defending, said the address had been a place of interest for gardaí but no name had been entered on the garda search warrant.

‘It was a rented address and Ms Keary and her partner had been living there for approximately two years. There was a very small amount of the drug found and she made full admissions,’ he said.

He added that his client was expecting her second child and was working as an administrative assistant. She had no history of drug addiction and has no previous convictions, the court heard.

Judge Joanne Carroll said she would strike out the matter due to Ms Keary’s personal circumstances. She ordered Ms Keary to pay €100 to the Court Poor Box, with a default fine of €250 if left unpaid.

An order was granted to gardaí for the destruction of the drugs.  Funded by the Courts Reporting Scheme.
