IT may not be a ‘secret’ around the world for much longer after an activity centre in Kilbrittain featured on the Travel Channel in the US recently.

The West Cork Secret was contacted by the makers of the Xtreme Waterslides TV show when they heard about their muddy water slide.

Owner Finbarr O’Mahony was thrilled after a video of his spectacular muddy water slide at the popular activity centre and gardens went viral.

Finbarr’s homemade waterslide is made from 230ft of industrial strength pond liner and is the biggest attraction at his centre.

‘They contacted with us and visited us in August last year and filmed here for the whole day. They loved it here and it is a honour to have been featured on their programme as they cover major theme parks and they came to Ireland specifically to visit us, ‘ Finbarr told The Southern Star.

Despite the production team using subtitles on the clip when he spoke, Finbarr said it was all good fun.

‘The subtitling was obvious for the Americans, but I didn’t mind as it’s been fantastic publicity for my business and their drone shots of the waterslide are fantastic and the feedback from customers has been fantastic too.’

The crew enlisted the help of some UCC students – members of the college’s Mixed Martial Arts club – to try out the slide.

Since Finbarr posted the six-minute video on the West Cork Secret’s Facebook page last week, it has already been viewed over 53,000 times.

‘Xtreme Waterslides’ aired again a week after the initial broadcast, giving the centre publicity that no money can buy. See www.facebook.com/westcorksecret to see the clip.
