For the second year, the Municipal Districts of West Cork & Bandon/Kinsale are holding a Special Music Event Scheme.

FOR the second year, the Municipal Districts of West Cork & Bandon/Kinsale are holding a Special Music Event Scheme.

The scheme is a community initiative endeavouring to bring the business and voluntary music communities together to promote their local town.

It follows on from a very successful launch last year where an excellent standard of music was provided by the various Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann music groups.

Cork County Council says it recognises the contribution that these music events can make to the lives of people in the county with cultural and social benefits as well as increasing local economic activity.

The aim of this music event scheme is to create opportunities for engagement and participation in the arts will also enhancing the towns’ vibrancy as visitor destinations. This year the scheme has been expanded to include other community music groups such as bands playing brass and reed music.

Each town applied for funding to hold four music events free of charge to the public on the town streets during the months of May, June, July and August, and a mixture brass and reed band music covering a wide genre of popular music and songs as well as traditional music, song and dance will be performed during these events.

The interest and enthusiasm shown by the local business associations and the community music groups who have come together under this scheme should ensure a successful and enjoyable outcome for all.

The programme of events began this week in Bandon and will run until August 12th when it finishes with a concert at Skibbereen courthouse.
