WEST Cork has received a major funding boost this year, with a total of €651,176 allocated to a range of community and sports projects.
The funding comes under the government’s latest round of rural development and community improvement schemes.
Among the beneficiaries is Myross Rowing Club, which was granted €40,995 to resurface its outdoor space, providing safer and more accessible facilities for members and visitors.

Ballydehob’s Gabriel Rangers GAA received €83,695 to upgrade its pitch lighting, a move that will extend training opportunities in the evenings and throughout the darker months.
In Courtmacsherry, €60,000 was awarded for the creation of a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), offering enhanced recreational options for all ages.
The community in Durrus benefited from €65,000 to update and improve the local playground as a safe and modern play area.
Skibbereen Sports Centre also secured €15,651 to install new fencing and improve safety standards at the facility.
Meanwhile, on Cape Clear Island, €50,000 was allocated for the installation of a grid bank of batteries to support solar power generation to boost the island’s sustainability and energy resilience.
The funding comes under the CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) programme, part of the Department of Rural and Community Development’s initiative to support small communities in rural areas.
The scheme provides targeted investment for projects that enhance local facilities, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen community engagement.
