Skibbereen to indulge in ‘gourmet golf'

Gourmet Golf will be a highlight at Skibbereen's 2018 Club Open Week next month. 

GOURMET Golf will be a highlight at Skibbereen’s 2018 Club Open Week next month. 

There is something for all golfers with a range of competitions over the ‘West Cork Week’ which runs from July 7th to 15th including a chance to sample the best local food.

The highlight of the week is on Saturday and Sunday, July 14th and 15th, with the 3 Ball Better Ball team event with prizes for Men’s and Ladies. 

As well as getting a goodie bag before tee off, golfers will have the chance of shooting a hole in one on the 14th hole to win a €7,000 holiday voucher which is generously sponsored by West Cork Travel.  

As golfers progress around the course there will be a plenty goodies to sample from local food and drink producers.

Among those featuring in this gourmet treat are Skeaghanore Duck, Glenilen, Gubbeen Cheese, Judes Chocolates, Drinagh, Field’s SuperValu, West Cork Distillers and  Kalbos. 

The Jack Lynch Memorial Open Week tees off with the Men’s Fourball where the coveted prize for the winning pair is a fourball at The Old Head of Kinsale. 

The prestigious ‘Mairin Lynch’ Ladies Singles prize will also be played  alongside the mens’ competiton this weekend.

Throughout the rest of the week all the usual competitions will be played with juveniles on Monday, seniors on Tuesday, men’s singles on Thursday.

 Over the past number of years Skibbereen Golf Club has very successfully attracted a large number of new members into ladies and men’s golf. 

To further encourage these members into participating in club competitions, this year they have introduced a new ‘Beginner/High Handicap’ Singles competition. 

This event will take place on Monday 9th and is open to ladies with handicap of 25 and over and men with handicap of 18 and over.  

Wednesday is the ever popular Ladies Champagne Scramble, three person team, with champagne on the 8th tee and a chance to sample some  organic perfume courtesy of Waters + Wild, Glandore.

Friday, it’s the 9 hole Mixed Foursomes followed that evening by BBQ with a recommendation to book tickets early for the popular social evening. 

Sunday night is the culmination of what’s shaping up to be a very busy golf week with the Gala presentation of all prizes in the clubhouse.
