SIX innovative West Cork food and drinks suppliers will be stocked in Aldi’s 132 stores nationwide as part of the chain’s Specialbuys Irish Food promotion.

Mella’s Fudge, Skeaghanore West Cork Duck, The Nutcase Food Co., Kinsale Bay Food, Macroom Buffalo Cheese and Putóg Teoranta – DeRóiste Foods have all successfully won a place on the Grow with Aldi supplier development programme.

Mella’s Fudge’s Vanilla Fudge Bar and Salted Caramel Butter Fudge Bar; Skeaghanore West Cork Duck’s West Cork Smoked Chicken Supreme and West Cork Smoked Duck Breast; and The Nutcase Food Co’s Handmade Nut Burger and Handmade Nut Burger with Masala Spices will be available on Aldi’s shelves.

Also available as part of the Specialbuys Irish Food promotion will be Kinsale Bay Food Co’s Chicken Liver Paté and Smoked Salmon Paté, Putóg Teoranta – DeRóiste Foods’ Ballyvourney Black Pudding and Ballyvourney White Pudding and Macroom Buffalo Cheese’s new Macroom Buffalo Ricotta Cheese.

Mella’s Fudge was founded by Mella McAuley who started out by making fudge for her local sweet shop in Bantry while she was still in school. Some 15 years later, after working in media, interior design and as a cheesemonger, Mella resurrected her childhood business and moved it to Clonakilty where she makes high quality fudge using pure Irish butter and fine ingredients.

Owned and operated by husband and wife team Eugene and Helena Hickey, Skeaghanore West Cork Duck hand rears its own ducks near Ballydehob on an ex-dairy farm inherited from Eugene’s parents. Its  fuller flavour and succulent taste comes from being hand reared longer and being fed a 100% natural cereal-based diet.

Several of the products made in West Cork being listed in the Grow with Aldi Specialbuys promotion were recently awarded at the 2018 Great Taste Awards. Developed in partnership with Bord Bia, Grow with Aldi has been designed to help small to medium Irish food and drink businesses secure a retail listing with a national retailer.
