WEST Cork people are being encouraged to put on the kettle and share some warmth this winter as part of Cancer Connect’s new fundraising drive.

The Cup of Kindness tea parties will take place over the February Bank Holiday weekend.

Running from January 30th to February 2nd, the campaign invites individuals, families, workplaces and community groups to host their own tea parties in aid of the Bantry-based organisation.

Cancer Connect is a county-wide transport charity that has operated since 2011, relying on volunteer drivers.

It is dedicated to helping cancer patients get safely to and from their treatment appointments.

To date, it has recorded over 51,500 passenger journeys.

Transport was originally offered in West Cork but due to growing demand, the free service is now available throughout the county, with the exception of city suburbs and surrounds.

A spokesperson said: ‘Cancer Connect has always been powered by the kindness of our community.

With over 500 volunteer drivers and a small team of staff, our mission is to provide reliable and stress-free transport for cancer patients across Cork.

Every donation helps us keep our wheels turning and our promise to patients alive.’

Every cup poured and every euro collected as part of the tea parties will go directly toward keeping the charity’s fleet on the road, ensuring that no patient in Cork faces a hospital journey alone.

The initiative comes at a crucial time for the organisation, which has seen record demand for its services.

This year alone, Cancer Connect facilitated more than 8,000 passenger journeys, the highest in its history.

Rising fuel prices, vehicle maintenance costs, and expanding service areas have placed increased pressure on Cancer Connect’s resources, making community support more vital than ever.

Its efforts are made possible thanks to donations and local partnerships.

This year, Barry’s Tea has stepped forward to sponsor the Cup of Kindness campaign.

Those who register to host a tea party by Friday, January 16th will receive a complimentary pack of tea and a host information kit to help make their event a success.

Taking part is simple: supporters can pick a date between January 30th and February 2nd, host a gathering at home, work, or in the community, and invite guests to enjoy a chat over tea while making a donation to Cancer Connect.
