BANDON bid farewell to one of the town’s most popular bars recently when Seán and Lilly Hurley called last orders at their premises on Market Street.

Also known as ‘The Cinema Bar’, the pub – which was open for almost 40 years – is located across from the former cinema premises.

Friends, family and loyal customers all gathered at the bar on a recent Friday night to wish Seán and Lilly all the best for the future.

‘It was time to call it a day really as we’ve been running the bar for nearly 39 years this December. We decided to close it now for the moment, and we have made no decision yet about what we will do with the premises,’ Seán told The Southern Star.

‘Of course we will both miss the chat and the banter with our regular customers, and talking about everything from sport to politics, on a daily basis. It’s definitely a big change for us, and a bit of a culture shock to be honest.’

For the moment Seán and Lilly are going to take it easy for a while and enjoy their retirement from the pub business, with no decisions made yet about the premises.

The closure of Seán & Lilly’s follows the closure of another bar in Bandon, The Castle Bar, which was run by Michael Kelleher and his late wife Agnes.
