Gardaí in Schull are investigating attempted break-ins to parked cars outside a local mass last Sunday morning.

Gardaí in Schull are investigating attempted break-ins to parked cars outside a local mass last Sunday week.

The cars were targeted outside St Patrick’s Church in Goleen during 12pm mass.

The culprits were seen checking the doors of cars but were quickly spotted and left the scene.

However, the registration of their car was noted and given to gardaí in Schull. It is understood that gardaí later stopped the car while en route to Cork city.

Meanwhile, gardaí have arrested and charged a man in his 20s in relation to the theft and criminal damage of a car that was stolen from a car park in Clonakilty on February 10th.

At approximately 4.30am on that date, gardaí received a report of a car that had been stolen in Clonakilty. The car was recovered later that day in the Ballinhassig area but a significant amount of damage had been caused to the inside of the car, following an attempt to set it on fire.

Following an investigation by gardaí in Clonakilty, a man in his 20s was arrested on Monday, March 4th. He was detained at Bandon Garda Station and has since been charged to appear before Clonakilty District Court at a later date.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Bandon are investigating the theft of a log splitter from a property in Bengour West, Newcestown on January 9th last.

Weighing 40 tonnes, gardaí suspect that it would have been towed away when it was stolen.

If anyone has any information, or was offered a log splitter to buy over the last few weeks, they are advised to contact Bandon Garda Station on 023-8852200.
