Replacement is sought as Union Hall PO to close

The Post Office in Union Hall is to close on Friday, July 15th.

Cork South West TD, Jim Daly, told The Southern Star he is working with An Post to ensure that the service will re-open in a different location in the busy fishing village.

When news of the closure – due to retirement – was made public, Deputy Daly contacted An Post and the post office body indicated that it was willing to offer a new contract in the area. 

Jim Daly said: ‘It was advertised and there was one applicant, but that applicant withdrew late in the process.

He added that An Post has, in the meantime, confirmed that it has already re-advertised the contract on its website. ‘I am very hopeful another applicant from the area will come forward,’ he added.
