THE €180m investment and 210 new jobs announced this week for MSD in Brinny is described as a global vote of confidence in its local workforce.

And the pharmaceutical company, which is a major employer in West Cork with a current staff of 500, is looking for people from all backgrounds to join them so long as they bring with them ‘the right ambition, mindset and personality’.

The multi-million euro investment over the next three years will meet global demand for some of the company’s most successful treatments for lung cancer, melanoma, hepatitis C and rheumatoid arthritis.

As well as the new hires, it allows Brinny to increase manufacturing capacity across a number of its buildings.

Construction work is already underway on site, with additional employment also being created during this phase which will deliver knock-on benefits to the area, according to Donal Kelleher, site quality lead at Brinny.

He said the investment was testament to what their employees had achieved since the company was established nearly 35 years ago – their passion, dedication, expertise and innovation.

Recruitment is already underway for the new roles which include technical, engineerining, biochemistry, biology, quality and operations positions.

However, Mr Kelleher was keen to point out that they were open to hearing, not just from graduates or those already in the industry, but from people from all backgrounds, with training provided. MSD also confirmed 120 jobs for its sister site in Carlow.
