THE official launch of the Kinsale Coffee Cup Project, organised by Transition Town Kinsale took place in the Temperance Hall.

The project is a collaboration between Transition Town Kinsale, Kinsale Tidy Towns and Cork County Council.

This project focuses on reducing the use of disposable items with the aim of reducing the energy and resources used to manufacture them.

Transition Town Kinsale was awarded funding by Cork County Council from the Circular Economy Fund (2025) to deliver this project and has partnered up with the 2GoCup company to do this.

They were also at the launch to answer questions.

Independent cafes and businesses already involved include Seeds Bakery, Salvi’s Café, Koko of Kinsale, Gourmet Pantry, Lemon Leaf Café, as well as Kinsale Community School and others in the town are being invited to join also.

‘We hope that more businesses will follow as Transition Town Kinsale would like to see the end of the disposable coffee cups used in town in the near future,’ said Raffaella Valenti of Transition Town Kinsale.

The success of the project depends on all the people of Kinsale, the passers-by and the tourists using the cups.

‘This is a little, doable change that can be easily introduced in our lives and made a habit. A small change that will create a big positive effect.’

Transition Town Kinsale is an environmental group active since 2005 which focuses its work on projects that could ensure a more sustainable future.
