KINSALE gardai are investigating an incident in which a local teenager fell from the roof of a nightclub in the town in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Eighteen years old Ciara O’Brien, who is a member of a well-known local family and had recently sat her Leaving Certificate exam at Kinsale Community School, is believed to have fallen about eight feet from the flat roof at the side of the Moorings on Market Street at around 2.30am on Saturday morning while attending a party at the venue.

Emergency services brought Ciara to Cork University Hospital initially and she was later airlifted to the spinal injury unit at the Mater Hospital in Dublin. Her injuries, while serious, were described as ‘non-life threatening.’

Gardai have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the fall and interviewed staff and other witnesses at the Moorings, where a beach-themed party was held on Friday night.
