THE Hungry Crow at the Pike in Lisavaird is looking for a new ‘nest’, writes Martin Steinmetz.
The popular artisan chocolate shop on the N71 has been owned and successfully run by partners Niamh O’Reilly and Mark Stewart since 2021.
The Hungry Crow is known for its handmade, ethically sourced chocolates and was founded by Niamh who has been a self-taught chocolatier since 2015.

The pair’s landlord recently advised them that the building may be put up for sale requiring them to vacate the property. Niamh and Mark did not have a written contract but entered the lease on a verbal agreement.
Niamh said: ‘It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster and we’ve definitely learnt something along the way about signing a contract.
‘People have been really, really supportive and we have and we have already had some suggestions for new places. We will be able to keep going and hopefully find a new place in the next few weeks.
‘It’s difficult for small businesses and small producers to find premises. There’s a lack of places to live in West Cork and also a lack of business premises. But West Cork is our home and that’s where we would like to be.’
Writing on its social media page, staff made a public appeal, asking for people’s help: ‘This upheaval is both scary and exciting. And we need your help in creating an even funkier and friendlier Hungry Crow incarnation.’
After outgrowing its original space at a small kitchen in Lisavaird, in 2021 the Hungry Crow moved to the larger, renovated premises.
