A STYLIST from Glengarriff has been named as the Street Style Barber of the Year 2018 at the Great British Barber Bash in London.

Ciarán ‘Kiwi’ O’Sullivan from Droumgarriff in Glengarriff is one of the top stylists at Wayne Lloyd’s salon in Washington St in Cork city.

He told The Southern Star he was ‘over the moon’ to have made it to the final in London, but could hardly believe his ears when the judges announced he was the winner.

Ciarán thanked his model, Luke McCarthy, and the photographer, Shaun Barry, as well as his city salon manager, Ciara Dorrington, and stylist, Kelly Lynch, for their help and co-operation.

Ciarán is no stranger to awards. He was named the All Star Challenge Ireland winner in 2017, as well as taking the Junior Male Makeover prize the same year.

Ciarán said he owes it all to his mother, Angela, who – when he was just 16 – suggested that he do a week’s work experience at Wayne Lloyd’s salon in Ballydehob.

Ciarán was in transition year at Coláiste Phobail Bheanntrai at the time and thought it an odd suggestion, but nevertheless took her advice. What started as a try-out with Wayne Lloyd soon turned into a Saturday job and, when Ciarán finished his Leaving Certificate in 2016, he began his training in earnest.
