IT looks likely that a €5m fund for flood affected areas will come before the Dail for approval tomorrow.

The cabinet has just finalised proposals for the scheme, which would come as a huge relief to the traders in towns like Bandon and Ballinasloe which were badly hit by floods last weekend.

The fund is aimed at businesses badly hit by the recent deluges, who were not able to secure insurance cover due to previous flooding experiences.

The fund will be administered through the Red Cross and sources say traders will need to show proof that insurance was denied to them.

It is thought the plan will come before the Dail tomorrow (Wednesday) for approval.

Jim Daly TD, who travelled to Bandon with Agriculture and Defence Minister Simon Coveney this week to assess the damage, said the scheme will have a maximum value of €15,000 per application.
