Love is well and truly in the air in Clonakilty with no less than two elaborate wedding proposals taking place in the town recently.

LOVE is well and truly in the air in Clonakilty with no less than two elaborate wedding proposals taking place in the town recently.

While on the Flavour.ie Walking Clonakilty Food Tour on a recent Friday, Enniskillen native Fintan O’Doherty popped the question to his girlfriend Clare Monaghan.

However, for the surprise proposal to work, he had ‘inside’ help in the guise of food blogger and tour organiser Kate Ryan.

‘Fintan rang me to book the tour and then asked me if I could do him a favour as he planned to propose to his girlfriend of seven years. I got Allison Roberts of Clonakilty Chocolate on board too, as her chocolate factory was the last stop on the tour,’ Kate told The Southern Star.

‘Fintan  brought the ring to the factory beforehand and Allison placed it in a wooden trinket box in the loo so that when Fintan arrived he would make his excuses to pop to the loo.’

As they tasted the chocolate, Allison handed the box, which was filled with cocoa beans, to Clare.

‘Clare really didn’t know what was going on, but thankfully after the initial shock, she said yes!

‘We celebrated in style then with some pink fizz, kindly donated by my friends at Wines Direct.’

Since Kate put the engagement post up on her Facebook page, the video of Fintan’s marriage proposal has been viewed over 19,000 times and has reached nearly 40,000 people.

Meanwhile, another romantic man by the name of Daniel pulled out all the stops to propose to his girlfriend Caroline. As well as decorating a bedroom in the Inchydoney Lodge & Spa with chocolates and balloons, he also managed to get his proposal inscribed on the sand at Inchydoney Beach.
