FINN Buckley is already showing his entrepreneurial skills after setting up his own coffee dock from his home garden in Dunderrow, much to the delight of his neighbours and even his teachers.
And it’s not the first time that the 12-year-old, who is in sixth class at Dunderrow National School, has shown his business acumen, according to his proud mum Emily.
‘He has been baking since he was about eight years old and also sold lemonade to the neighbours. He also makes his own dinner and he spent all last summer cutting grass for people,’ she said.
Emily also said Finn has done everything himself, including the baking, setting up and cleaning as well as designing the logo for his new business. ‘I suggested getting a shed and cutting a hole in it so he could sell coffee and treats and then his dad Padraig and uncle Billy put a hole in the hedge.’
Finn opened up his coffee dock on February 26th and he sold out his stock two weekends in a row.
‘The idea came from my mum initially and I thought it would be a great idea. I sell coffee, tea, hot chocolate and bake my own treats at the weekend for the week ahead,’ Finn told The Southern Star.
‘I also came with up the name, Doon Coffee which is named after the nearby Doon Woods in Dunderrow and I designed the logo which features a tree and a coffee bean.’
Finn even manages to open for an hour before he starts school each morning from 8am to 9am and often serves some of the teachers who are on their way to his school. Doon Coffee opens every Saturday from 10am to 2pm and he hopes to open for longer over the summer holidays.
‘I’m really enjoying it and my friends think it’s cool too and they often call for hot chocolates too.’
Finn even spent a day at Ballymaloe House where he soaked up more inspiration about being an entrepreneur and even met Darina Allen there.
‘He wants to be the youngest entrepreneur when he turns 14 too,’ added Emily.
And it seems he is already heading towards his aim judging by the success of his latest business.
