Skibbereen Theatre Society will be brightening up January evenings with a lively double bill of one-act plays in the Town Hall later this month. The society will be staging shows on Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th, Sunday 25th, Thursday 29th and Friday 30th January, with the curtain rising each night at 8pm. This year’s one-act programme features two very different plays that complement each other perfectly, ensuring plenty of variety, laughter and entertainment for theatre-goers of all ages.

The first play of the evening is Even Numbers by Tony Domaille, and directed by Hilda Hegarty. This cleverly constructed piece stars Ann Callanan, Carmel O’Driscoll and Áine O’Driscoll, who deliver powerful and convincing performances. With its intriguing plot and sharp, intelligent dialogue, Even Numbers keeps the audience guessing from start to finish. As the story unfolds, tensions steadily rise and unexpected twists ensure that viewers are kept firmly on their toes. Strong performances, combined with skilful direction and pacing, make this a compelling and absorbing piece of drama.

Balancing the suspense of Even Numbers is the light-hearted but equally engaging A Dog’s Life by Pam Valentine, directed by Fachtna O’Driscoll.

This delightful comedy offers a humorous yet thought-provoking, and at times poignant, take on the world as seen through canine eyes. Featuring four dogs, played by Ger Minihane, Maura Cunningham, Kevin Cadogan and Carina Hourihan, alongside two human characters (portrayed by Gráinne O’Brien and Mary O’Driscoll), the play is packed with laugh-out-loud moments. The witty script and playful performances guarantee plenty of fun, making it a firm crowd-pleaser.

The directors and cast are supported by a very experienced and capable backstage crew including Charlie Keohane, Barty Connolly, Patrick Leahy, Gearóid MacEoin, Jack Marks, Karen Coppinger and Niamh Woods.

Tickets at €15 are available from Thornhill Electrical directly or on (028) 22557, or can be purchased at the Town Hall door each night.
