Uisce Éireann wishes to advise customers in Bantry and surrounding areas that drinking water may be discoloured for a short time following a water outage caused by a lightning strike at Cahernacrin and Derrynaginagh Water Treatment Plants.

Uisce Éireann said its water services crews are progressing with repairs and are making every effort to limit the impact, however, there is the possibility that there may be a disruption to supply for customers, particularly those on higher parts of the network.

Customers may experience discolouration as a result of the low flows and levels at present.

Niall O’Riordan, Operations Lead Uisce Éireann, said: “We are working as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise disruption to customers. Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience caused when unplanned supply disruptions occur and thanks customers in advance for their patience while we work to restore normal water supply to impacted customers.”

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries. For updates, please see the Water Supply updates section of water.ie
