A RECORD level of entries will set the stage for the All-Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships in Bantry with over 70 races staged from August 14th to 16th.

The event is expected to attract 20,000 people and accommodation is booked up, making it a bonanza for Bantry in August. Local businesses and services are gearing up to host the biggest championships in the history of the event.

Orlagh Ryan, PRO of the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation, said: ‘Entries have now officially closed, but we can confirm a record 730 crews from 35 clubs will compete, surpassing all previous records and marking a significant milestone for coastal rowing in Ireland.

‘The scale of this year’s championships is unprecedented. The previous two All-Ireland Championships attracted approximately 570 crews, figures that were considered exceptional at the time.

‘This year’s entry has exceeded all expectations, comfortably surpassing previous record championships held in Courtmacsherry in 2012 and Ballyshannon in 2016 and 2017.’

According to Orlagh, the unprecedently high level of entries reflects the continued growth of coastal rowing across the country.

She said: ‘The All-Ireland Championships represent the pinnacle of the rowing calendar, bringing together the best crews from every coastal county following months of local and county championship racing throughout the summer.

‘Since early in the season, clubs have been competing for county honours while preparing for the ultimate test of the year, with countless hours of training, dedication and commitment leading to this championship weekend in Bantry.

‘Hosting an event of this magnitude has required months of planning by the organising committee and the support of a dedicated team of volunteers. From race management and safety to logistics and hospitality, preparations are well advanced to ensure the championships run smoothly and that visitors enjoy both the competition and the renowned welcome for which Bantry is known.

‘On the water, spectators can look forward to some of the most exciting racing of the year. With All-Ireland titles at stake across a wide range of age groups and classes, the standard of competition is expected to be exceptionally high.’
