Clonakilty Macra, Carbery were crowned All Ireland Champions at Macra's FBD Capers National Finals in the WIT Arena in Waterford

CLONAKILTY Macra, Carbery were crowned All Ireland Champions at Macra’s FBD Capers National Finals in the WIT Arena in Waterford.

The title stays in Cork for another year following on from Awbeg Macra, Avondhu’s success last year. Clonakilty held off stiff competition from Mountmellick Macra, Laois on the night who finished runners up and Enfield Macra, Meath who were placed third.

Speaking at the finals, Macra na Feirme National President James Healy said, ‘This was a fantastic night’s entertainment and a fitting way to begin our 75th anniversary celebrations, which will continue throughout the year. Congratulations to our six finalists for the brilliant entertainment they provided on the night and thank you to FBD Insurance for their continued support of one of Macra’s most prestigious competitions. 

Thank you to Waterford Macra for hosting, our presiding officer, adjudicators, time keepers and everyone who came along to support on the night’. As well as being declared best club in the country, Joseph O’Sullivan of Clonakilty Macra was also deemed Best Producer on the night. 

Clon Macra thanked and congratulated all members of the cast, backstage and sound and lighting crew on a fantastic performance and a very proud win.  Included were cast members Katelynn Cahalane, Bríd Collins, John Collins, Carmel Cullinane, John Forbes, Bernard Keane, Karen McCarthy, Michael McCarthy, Ciara O’Donovan, John O’Leary, Mary O’Donovan, Joseph O’Sullivan, Peter O’Sullivan, Siobhan Sexton and Mary Sheehan. Macra’s FBD Capers is a competition designed for clubs wishing to gain experience in producing and performing a light entertainment variety show, with performances ranging from singing and dancing to comedy and drama.
