A CORK South West Dail candidate has been subjected to horrendous online abuse after her criticism of the far-right anti-Muslim group, Pegida.
Independent candidate Fiona O’Leary received the abusive messages, which included comments about her autistic children, after she posted a video criticising the group, which held a protest in Dublin recently.
‘I looked at your pics. Quite the clan of inbred Mongolians, aren’t ye?’ said the commentator, adding that if Fiona and her family committed mass suicide, it would ‘free up more resources for the humans’.
Adding: ‘Holy Christ, you’re a f***ing Dáil candidate? Your son is a candidate for vivisection (sic) and that’s the painful truth.’ Fiona says she is used to online abuse, but the fact this ‘troll’ has now targeted her children is, she says, ‘disgusting’. She believes the man is linked to far-right groups.
‘Voters need to be aware of far right groups like Identity Ireland who are promoting hate groups such as Pegida and using the current hardships faced by people due to the austerity measures imposed by our own Government to gain support,’ she told The Southern Star.
