Fire brigade crews from Bantry, Skibbereen and Schull fought a fire in Bantry Business Park this (Saturday) morning, which saw one of the units completely gutted.

The alarm was raised at about 1.40am when the blaze was spotted in the middle unit of the business park – between O’Brien Kitchens and Murphy Headstones – on the outskirts of the West Cork town. Six appliances and one water tanker were dispatched to the scene of what was described as a ‘really intense’ fire, which caused the roof of the unit to collapse.

The fire has been brought under control and fire brigade personnel are damping down the building and making it safe. The adjoining units were saved from any major damage by the prompt actions of the firefighters.

Gardaí have been at the scene since the fire was discovered and will be carrying out an investigation into what caused it.
