THE Courtmacsherry Harbour Festival begins this Friday when it will be officially opened by camogie and football star Briege Corkery.

The festivities in Courtmac last for 11 days and are anchored around the Courtmacsherry Regatta on Saturday August 5th – an event that has a very proud tradition.

Both on land and sea there are plenty of events for young and old, locals and visitors.

A tennis tournament for the Chaillet Family Perpetual Cup is the first event on the festival programme.

The official opening on Friday night is in the Community Centre where the Recognition Award will also be presented.

Soccer tournaments, a teddy bears' picnic and a beach banquet are the main events on Saturday while Sunday's itinerary is varied.

Following Mass and Service, there will be events such as a car treasure hunt and a family fun day in the lawn of Courtmacsherry Hotel.

A balloon release and ‘human foosball' are two of the newer events providing entertainment aplenty.

The evening concludes with the Butlerstown Variety Group Showcase at the Courtmacsherry Hotel.

Last Easter the group staged Sing with a Swing– a show that drew a full house for six nights.

Meanwhile, orienteering, beach volleyball, cycle races, time trials, kite making, a dog show and beach soccer are just some of the other events being hosted throughout the week.

A brochure with a full programme of events is available locally or see the website www.courtmacsherry.ie for more.
