A POST mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body of a 35-year-old man from Bandon who was killed in a workplace accident in Little Island in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The man died after an accident involving a machine at a firm called Architectural and Metal Systems (AMS) at Wallingstown in Little Island.

A work colleague discovered his body and raised the alarm, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The dead man’s body was later taken to CUH for a post mortem examination.

The scene of the accident in Little Island was preserved yesterday for a technical examination while two separate investigations by both the gardaí and the Health & Safety Authority (HSA) are currently underway.

In a statement, the firm – AMS – said their thoughts and prayers are with the dead man’s family at this time.
