FORMER journalist-turned PR consultant, Neans McSweeney, and her firm, McSweeney Media, have won the coveted ‘Excellence in Communications’ Award at the Glanbia Kilkenny Chamber Business Awards.

The Macroom native worked in journalism for 14 years before entering public relations in 2007. The win is a major boost for the firm which was shortlisted for the same award last year.

Neans is a graduate of the University of Limerick and has a Higher Diploma in Applied Communications from NUI Galway. She recently completed a Diploma in Digital Marketing with the European Institute of Communications.

Neans cut her teeth in The Kerryman and The Southern Star and worked in a freelance capacity for a while with RTE Cork on their Streetwise series before later joining the Irish Examiner and Evening Echo, also in a freelance capacity, before being made a permanent member of staff with The Examiner in 1997.

The Macroom woman moved to Kilkenny 16 years ago and transitioned into Public Relations in 2007.
