BREAKFAST is the most important meal of the day especially for growing children and with this in mind the Taste of West Cork festival is inviting everyone to come along and enjoy a Big Egg-sellent Breakfast.

Launched by the Jamie Oliver Foundation/Food Revolution Day, the Big Egg-sellent Breakfast is part of the campaign to tackle child obesity by encouraging a more nutritionally balanced approach to breakfast.

As part off this year’s Taste of West Cork festival, Caroline Murphy of West Cork Eggs, Kate Ryan of Flavour.ie and Alison Kingston of Alison Health will be taking the Big Egg-sellent Breakfast experience out of the classrooms, where they have helped 1,500 children to swap sugary breakfast cereals a few times a week for an Egg-sellent Breakfast.

They have invited children, families, youth workers, teachers, sports clubs and any other organisations working directly with children to take part in The Big Egg-sellent Breakfast morning at the West Cork Hotel on Sunday September 16th at 10am.

‘As a mother of four, it’s very important for me that my children eat well,’ Caroline said. ‘I believe that Egg-sellent Breakfasts is a fun and interactive way to educate children about the importance of eating a healthy balanced breakfast.’

The Big Egg-sellent Breakfast includes a short stack of the much-loved signature American style pancakes with blueberries and honey, fresh fruit, nuts, fruit juice, water, tea and coffee.

‘The response to our Egg-sellent Breakfasts initiative at schools across the West Cork region has been phenomenal,’ Kate Ryan of Flavour.ie said. Children love it and we receive amazing feedback from the schools we visit. We cut away the confusion around making healthier food choices so it’s easier for children to eat a balanced and nutritious breakfast every day. By focusing only on eggs, the message is clear: an egg contains everything their body needs – protein, good fats and 13 different vitamins and minerals.’

The morning includes interactive talks, a cookery demo; a visit from Helen the Hen and of course a balanced, nutritious breakfast.

You will also receive a goodie bag containing a box of fresh West Cork Eggs, a copy of the Egg-sellent Breakfast recipe booklet and lots of other goodies too. And there is a chance to win an Egg-sellent Hamper.
