A man who drove his car while drunk and blocked a junction in Clonakilty was disqualified from driving for three years.

Michal Janiszek (37), of Emmet Court, Clonakilty, appeared at Clonakilty District Court on a drink driving charge.

The court heard that a mobile garda patrol observed Mr Janiszek on Pearse Street, Clonakilty, at 10.38pm on December 5th 2025. Sgt Tom Mulcahy said the defendant was seen parked at a junction blocking it, with his hazard lights on.

Gardaí at the scene found the smell of intoxicating liquor coming from him.

Mr Janiszek then provided a breath test, which showed there were 68mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath which is over the legal limit.

He was arrested and taken to Bandon Garda station.

Defence solicitor Conrad Murphy said his client, who is from Poland and has been in Ireland for seven years, admitted it was his fault and that he wanted to apologise.

‘He wanted to collect his girlfriend after having consumed alcohol at home,’ Mr Murphy said.

Mr Murphy said Mr Janiszek worked at a local factory and had a full Irish driving licence.

Judge Joanne Carroll noted that the defendant had no previous convictions and had pleaded guilty.

She banned Mr Janiszek from driving for three years.
