ALMOST 3,000 O’Sullivans and Sullivans have already registered to take part in a historic gathering on the Beara Peninsula over the June bank holiday weekend, writes Jackie Keogh.
Organisers are aiming to set a new world record for the largest same-surname gathering ever held with the record currently held by the Gallagher clan of Donegal, who brought 1,488 Gallaghers together in September 2007.
The O’Sullivan gathering will take place from May 30th to June 2nd, with the official record attempt scheduled for Saturday May 30th in Castletownbere, between 2pm and 5pm.

As previously reported in The Southern Star, the event will be led by Kelly Sullivan, Chieftain of the O’Sullivan Clan.
Among those expected to make the journey are O’Sullivans and Sullivans from Adrigole, Arizona, and Argentina, reflecting the reach of the Beara Peninsula’s diaspora, and the strong connections people feel to the name and their clan.
