Style with Carrie McKeown

I don’t quite know whether to put it down to the bright, late-spring days or the effects of an incredibly long and drawn out winter, but lately I’ve been noticing that my skin is in need of some serious TLC.

Now that the sun is peering through and the layers are getting lighter by the day, I’m finding new blemishes, patches of dry skin and red blotches that went unnoticed under the shade of winter’s dull and cloudy skies. Even my hair seems to be crying out for a moisture boost!

Now that summer is tantalisingly close, I’ve decided it’s time to put some work into getting my hair, skin and nails in tip-top shape before the leg-bearing, shoulder-showing season is truly upon us. Here are some brand new products I will be trying to achieve just that.

Skin

Always one of my personal favourites, The Body Shop has once again come to the rescue just in time for summer with their new Vitamin E range. As an avid fan of their Vitamin E BB cream, this is one collection I will certainly be using a lot of in the lead up to sunshine season. According to The Body Shop, the collection is made up of a variety of products to cover your entire skincare routine as it aims to prepare and activate, moisturise and protect, target problem areas and finally, to replenish. The new range, which will be available in May, comes with the promise of 48 hours of hydration for smoother, healthier-looking skin that’s perfectly plumped with moisture. Sounds like what I’ve been looking for!

Hands and Nails

What’s better than smooth and soft hands? Smooth and soft hands that smell like summer! I can’t wait to get my hands (literally) on this Cherry Blossom hand cream from L’Occitane (€16.50), which not only smells of – surprise, surprise – cherry blossoms, but also contains shea butter. Definitely a must for the handbag.

Hair

Much like our skin, our crowning glory also needs constant hydration in order to look and feel its best – especially in the summer months. The new Pureology Colour Fanatic Mask (RRP €30) contains a UV filter that helps to defend hair against damaging free radical activity, optimise colour retention and protect from harsh environmental factors. The deep-conditioning mask is aimed at women with colour-treated hair and while it promises to help to maintain beautiful hair colour, it also works to control frizz; a necessity during the humid months at home or on holiday.
