Agri Aware will be running a ‘walk and talk’ at Teagasc Agricultural College in Clonakilty on Tuesday March 4th, and another at the Moorepark facility in Fermoy on March 5th.

The annual series offers secondary school agricultural science students the chance to visit a farm, and this year’s series looks at the themes covered in the curriculum, as well as a stand dedicated to the Individual Investigative Study (IIS) that is worth 25% of the final grade.

Over 4,100 students took part in 2025, and this year the Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB) have come on board to partner on the series with Teagasc, the Irish Farmers Journal and the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.

Agri Aware is a charitable trust whose mission is to enhance agricultural literacy amongst the general public.

The ‘walk and talk’ events allow teachers and students to visit Teagasc agricultural colleges and research centres, as well as UCD’s Lyon’s Estate and the Irish Farmers Journal Tullamore demonstration farm.

From observing cows being milked, comparing different breeds of cattle, examining soil profiles, lamb births, to watching piglets suckle and farm safety demonstrations, the students get to experience the realities of the subjects that they are taught each day in the classroom.
