Kilmacs ended their long wait for South West JAFC glory

HOME ARE THE HEROES!

This is what 129 years of waiting for South West Junior A Football Championship glory looks and sounds like.

Forget Mayo’s wait since 1951 for the Sam Maguire, Kilmacabea’s wait for the South West JAFC crown stretched back far longer than that!

But on Sunday, the famine was ended.

Kilmacabea beat Kilbrittain to win the South West JAFC crown for the first time in the club’s 129-year history, and on Sunday night its football heroes marched into the village of Leap with the cup as their special guest.

Club chairman Dan Hourihane – uncle to Aston Villa and Ireland midfielder Conor Hourihane – was at the head of the parade in his car, announcing the arrival of Kilmacabea’s newest legends. Supporters thronged Leap village to welcome home their heroes and kickstart a party that this West Cork village had never seen before!

Thanks to Kilmac supporter Barry Glavin for the video.
