SCAR West Cork Adventure Duathlon - Saturday, October 18th

Calling all runners and cyclists! The SCAR (Skibbereen Charity Adventure Race) Duathlon takes place on Saturday, October 18th.

The event involves cycling and running (road/off-road) through some of West Cork's most scenic spots, including Lough Hyne, Toe Head, Castletownshend, and Tragumna.

There are two courses to choose from: a 14.5km run and 37.5km cycle for the 'Sport' course, and a shorter 7km run and 20km cycle 'Taster' course, which also has a relay option.

100% of the entry fee goes to local good causes.

You can sign up here before the weekend to get involved.

Over 30's Disco - Saturday, October 18th

Put on your dancing shoes and head to Daly's Yard at The West Cork Hotel for a night of classic hits from the 80s, 90s, and beyond!

The Over 30s Disco, with DJ Billy Flaherty, runs from 9 pm to midnight.

It's not just a fun night out; every ticket sold helps support the Wild Atlantic Pool in Baltimore, a vital local hub.

Tickets can be purchased here.

Beara Together - Friday, October 17th

Head to the Eyeries meeting rooms on Friday, October 17th for 'Beara Together,' a community event featuring a two-course lunch and a fun table quiz.

There will also be music by the Community Choir.

Tickets are €10 and can be bought at your local centre until October 10th.

It's a great opportunity to connect with the community.

Restart a Heart Day event - Friday, October 17th

Learn a life-saving skill for free at the Restart a Heart Day event in The Square, Castletownbere.

From 12 pm to 3 pm, you can get free CPR training and demonstrations.

The event is a collaboration with the Bere Island CFR Group, Allihies CFR Group, and local Emergency Services and Doctors.

No booking is needed, so just drop in and learn how you can save a life.

Go for a walk in Kilbrittain Woods - All weekend

Kilbrittain is only about 10km out of Bandon and has some beautiful walks and amenities to its credit.

There are four official walks around Kilbrittain known as the Kilbrittain Trails – the walks range from the Castle Walk (which is 3.7km to the longer Kiln Walk which is 14.5km).

Along the Castle Walk, you will see the castle, which is the oldest inhabited castle in Ireland, said to date from 1035.

It is lovely to finish this walk off with some time in the playground and to visit the bones of the fin whale which are mounted on display nearby.

The whale was beached in 2009 and its jaw alone is 18ft long.
