Kilmeen Ploughing Association hosted their 86th annual ploughing match on Sunday January 18th on the lands of John and Declan Buttimer at Gearagh in Rossmore.
This was the fifth ploughing match of the 2025/2026 season in the Cork West region and the second of the new year, on a dry but cool day on stubble ground in good conditions, with 35 competitors taking part on the day.

PLOUGHING DATES
The Timoleague Ploughing Match will be held on Sunday January 25th, and the Clogagh Ploughing Match on Sunday February 8th.
The Novice Match Ploughing Match is due to be held on Sunday February 15th; all of these events are weather-dependent.
Meanwhile, the Bandon Ploughing Match, which was postponed from its original date of January 11th, has yet to be rescheduled.

Daniel Morgan, Kieran Coakley and Robert Convery. The two Welsh visitors, who had planned to attend ploughing competitions in Wexford at the weekend had to rearrange their plans as those matches were cancelled. They then travelled to Kilmeen ploughing match where they met with Kieran, whom they knew from his visits to Wales.
