KINSALE could be set for a housing boost as Cork County Council has lodged plans to build 58 residential units at Abbeylands in the town.
The proposed development will comprise of 29 one-bed apartments, 15 two-bed apartments, five two-bed houses and nine three-bed houses.
The greenfield site in Kinsale town is zoned for residential use, while the design and scale of the proposed development would be compatible with existing adjacent residential land use and would be unlikely to cause significant effects on the environment, according to council planners.

The local authority is also proposing to construct new entrances onto both the R605 and R607 regional roads, internal roads and shared spaces, while a total of 78 car parking spaces including designated accessible spaces are planned.
New public pedestrian infrastructure including new footpaths along the R605 and R607 will also be constructed as well as two raised uncontrolled zebra crossings along the R605.
Landscaped public open amenity spaces including public recreation spaces, wildflower meadows, planting and trees will also form part of the development, while new public lighting and the construction of an ESB substation will also be constructed.
As part of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 Cork County Council said that a determination has been made that an EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) is not required.
However, it noted that if any person is concerned that the development proposed to be carried out would likely have significant effects on the environment, they may apply to An Coimisiún Pleanála for a screening determination as to whether the development would be likely to have such significant effects on the environment.
This must be done four weeks since the publication of the application notice on December 18th 2025.
Meanwhile, submissions or observations with regard to this development can be made using the online submission form on www.yourcouncil.ie or writing to the Director of Services, Housing Directorate, Floor 4, County Hall, Carrigrohane Road, Cork city no later than 4pm on Friday February 13th.
