O'Donovan brothers pick up Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Star of the Month award after qualifying for 2016 Olympics

SKIBBEREEN rowing brothers Gary and Paul O’Donovan were presented with the Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Star of the Month award for August on Friday night.

The Lisheen brothers were honoured after they qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio after finishing 11th in the men’s lightweight double sculls at the recent world rowing championships in France. They finished fifth in the B final and just edged out Greece by 0.28 of a second for the final Olympic qualification spot.

That result meant they booked their place at next summer’s Olympics, which is a fantastic achievement by the local rowers (products of Skibbereen Rowing Club), and they were rightly honoured at the Celtic Ross Hotel with a monthly West Cork Sports Star of the Month award.
