TWO Skibbereen Athletic Club starlets won gold medals at the All-Ireland Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Tullamore.

The club sent seven athletes to the All-Irelands, and enjoyed a fantastic medal haul, including the highlight – gold for Sam Kingston and Dylan O’Donovan in the U9 turbo javelin.

The duo threw a combined distance of 31.37, winning by two metres from the second place team.

Holly O’Flynn and Lorraine Coakley, in the U10 turbo javelin, secured a bronze medal.

Soon after they were back on the track competing in the 500m long distance. Holly was up in the first heat, setting a blistering pace and winning by some distance. In heat two Lorraine set out in the lead only to be caught by a fast finishing field.

The girls had a highly commendable combined time of three minutes and 20 seconds, less than one second outside the medals as they finished fifth overall.

In the U11 turbo javelin, Fay Aba and Elaine O’Sullivan competed well against a very strong field and will have gained great experience from the day.

In the U12 individual turbo javelin, Katie Kingston threw a personal best of 24.64m, which would have been good enough to win silver last year, however the standard was exceptional high this year and she finished in a very commendable fifth place.
