GER MCCARTHY REPORTS

O’Donovan Rossa blew away fellow West Cork club Clonakilty to reach the last sixteen of the Cork county senior football championship at sun-kissed Rosscarbery on Sunday afternoon.

Leading by nine points at the break, the Skibbereen club had the luxury of playing with the handbrake on for much of the closing quarter; such was their dominance of an utterly disappointing Clon side.

2-15 clocked up on the scoreboard courtesy of some standout individual displays (none more so than Kevin Davis) erased the memory of an opening round defeat to Bishopstown. Skibb were allowed to play with a swagger and confidence that bodes well for the rest of the year.

Contrast that mood with Clonakilty’s current predicament: The Brewery Town side was accused of failing to produce a performance befitting the jersey during an eight-point first round loss to Newcestown and their latest outing wasn’t much better.
