It's going to be a busy day at the Olympics in Rio

BY KIERAN McCARTHY

BUCKLE up, we've a busy day ahead of us at the Olympic Games in Rio today, with both the O'Donovan and Harte brothers in action.

Skibbereen's Gary and Paul O'Donovan race in their A/B semi-final of the men's lightweight double sculls at 1.10pm, knowing that they need to finish in the top three to advance to the A final.

Gary and Paul's brilliant RTE interview after their heat win on Monday endeared them to the hearts of the nation.

Then at 3pm, Ireland's men's hockey team - captained by goalkeeper David Harte and with defender Conor Harte, from Ringrone outside Kinsale - take on Canada in a must-win Group B game. If Ireland win this, it keeps alive their chances of making the quarter-finals in Rio, and sets up a big clash with Argentina on Friday night.

Best of luck to the O'Donovans and the Hartes today, both sets of brothers who have been honoured with Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Star Awards for their sporting excellence.
