Winning Munster Junior League Division 1 would stand out as their biggest achievement, insists Bandon rugby captain Tom Ferguson
THEY won the Munster Junior Cup for the first time last year – but winning Munster Junior League Division 1 would stand out as an even bigger achievement, insists Bandon rugby captain Tom Ferguson.
Heading into the final round of games this Sunday, Bandon are in top spot and all they need to do is match or better Richmond’s result against Skibbereen to clinch the league crown.
Bandon recorded their third bonus point win in a row last weekend, scoring six tries when beating Abbeyfeale 35-12 at home.
They’re now at home to Newcastlewest this Sunday.
‘For the players, winning the league would be bigger,’ Ferguson said.
‘We are playing the league since September and a season’s work goes into the league whereas with the junior cup last year, the first game was in January and it was in February and March when it got serious; it’s a short run.
‘Winning the league might not be as glamorous as winning the cup but we know what we have put into this, how much work has gone into the season and how consistent we have needed to be. A league is a tougher test of a team over a long period of time so if we do win, then we know we were the best team in the Munster.’
