BALLINASCARTHY made history over the Easter weekend by fielding a second adult team in the Cork Camogie Lily Grant county league.
The Carbery club’s junior league clash at home to Aghada marked a significant milestone for one of the county’s most progressive outfits.
With their first team already competing in the intermediate county league, Ballinascarthy’s decision to field a second adult side underlines the club’s continued growth.

Leading 1-2 to 0-3 at the break, Ballinascarthy kept pushing forward in the second period to secure an historic first win at the grade.
Lisa McCarthy, Grace Flynn (1-0 each), Megan Ryan, Emily Walsh (0-2 each) and Kaela O’Driscoll (0-1) scored in Bal’s 2-5 to 0-3 victory over Aghada’s second string. Emily Hansberry, Emily Walsh, Kaela O’Driscoll, Grace Flynn and Megan Ryan were the pick of Bal’s top performers.
Barryroe, in their second year fielding a second adult team, had their maiden Lily Grant junior county league outing away to Sliabh Rua in Belgooly. A young Barryroe side produced an excellent display and were level 3-2 apiece at the short whistle before losing out to a more experienced opponent, 3-10 to 4-2.

Newcestown’s search for a first Division 1 senior county league victory goes on following defeat to last year’s intermediate county league champions Sarsfields. The Carbery club will host Glen Rovers in round three.
Courcey Rovers made it two wins out of two in the premier intermediate county league following a comprehensive victory at home to Watergrasshill.
A 4-23 to 0-2 success was attained thanks to 2-5 from Jacinta Crowley and 1-5 from Dee O’Reilly. Grainne Hannon (1-1), Ashling Moloney (0-4), Annmarie Collins (0-3), Fiona Keating, Caoimhe Foley (0-2 each) and Lily Murphy (0-1) were also on target for a rampant Rovers.
Midleton overcame Clonakilty in round two of the intermediate county league on Monday evening. The former ran out 3-17 to 1-5 winners despite a gutsy Clonakilty effort. Lydia Sutton (1-0), Aoife O’Flynn Meade, Amy McCarthy (0-2 each) and Nyah Coffey (0-1) were on target for Clon.
Barryroe’s impressive start to this year’s junior A county league continued with victory at home to Nemo Rangers. An opening round 3-12 to 5-6 draw with Rockbán was attained thanks to Róisín Ní Bhuachalla, Clíona Harte, Ellen O’Riordan, Aoibhinn McKeogh, Caoimhe Ní Bhuachalla and Sarah Harte scores a week before.
On Easter Monday, Barryroe built on that positive display by overpowering Nemo and recording a convincing 1-20 to 0-2 victory. Caoimhe Ní Bhuachalla continued her superb start to the season by top scoring with 1-7.
Róisín Ní Bhuachalla added six points and Ellen O’Riordan fired over five additional scores in a commanding display from the Carbery side. Aoibhinn McKeogh and Meabh O’Sullivan also contributed.

The opening rounds of the 2026 Cork camogie minor leagues saw a host of Carbery clubs in action across the county.
Barryroe are competing in the top-ranked Premier Minor 1 League. Yet to play their first game, Barryroe will take on Aghabullogue, Ballincollig, Douglas and Sliabh Rua in Group A over the coming months.
In the Premier Minor 2 county league, Kilbrittain-Timoleague’s opening Group A match saw the Carbery club build a 0-8 to 1-4 interval lead at home to Bishopstown. Despite a heroic Kilbrittain-Timoleague effort, it was the city side who emerged 3-6 to 1-0 winners. Eva Nagle top scored for the black and amber with eight points. Phillipa Desmond (1-0), Hannah Twomey and Lisa O’Mahony were also on target.
Elsewhere in the Premier Minor 2 county league, Clonakilty played superbly despite losing 2-9 to 1-6 away to Ballinhassig in Group C. Hannah McCarthy netted Clon’s goal in a game Luisne Déiseach, Meadbh O’Mahony (0-2 each), Eva Oldham and Roisin Forristal (0-1 each) also scored for the Carbery side.
Newcestown will be eager to bounce back from their 2-10 to 1-5 Minor A county league Group B defeat away to Youghal.
Courcey Rovers got their Minor A county league campaign off to a winning start. Àine O’Donoghue and Kate Harrington found the net in their 2-6 to 0-11 Group C victory away to Nemo Rangers.
Bandon are up and running in the Minor B county league following a comprehensive 7-13 to 1-5 win over Ballinora. Jessica Bolster scored six goals in a game Clodagh Barry (0-6), Sive Coughlan (1-0), Ann O’Leary (0-2) and Orla Weblin (0-1) were also on target.
