The hugely decorated West Kerry man is no stranger to Cork GAA supporters

FIVE-TIME All-Ireland winning former Kerry footballer Tomás Ó Sé is the guest speaker at this Saturday night’s West Cork Sports Star awards night that will be held at the Celtic Ross Hotel, Rosscarbery.
The hugely decorated West Kerry man is no stranger to Cork GAA supporters having only retired from the inter-county scene in 2013.
A new analyst on The Sunday Game last season, Ó Sé (36), who works as a teacher in Fermoy, made headlines late last year when it was announced that he joined Nemo Rangers GAA Club.
Meanwhile, as well as listening to Ó Sé’s words of wisdom this Saturday night, the 17th annual Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Star of the Year will be crowned.
Eleven contenders are in the running to be recognised as West Cork’s top performer in 2014, having all scooped monthly Sports Star prizes.
Sigerson Cup winning duo Brian O’Driscoll and Brian Shanahan, jockey Gavin Sheehan, Clonakilty Hockey Club trainer Melvin Beamish, marathon runner Alex O’Shea, kickboxer Lily de la Cour, All-Ireland winning Cork camogie star Jennifer O’Leary, All-Ireland winning Cork ladies’ footballer Martina O’Brien, Cork City FC manager John Caulfield and PJ Hegarty (equestrian) are all vying for the top award.
The winner will be chosen by adjudicators Con Downing, editor of The Southern Star, and Paudie Palmer, c103 sports commentator, from the 2014 monthly winners.
Also on the night, Connor Ellis will pick up the West Cork Youth Sports Star award, Newcestown GAA Club will receive the inaugural Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Club of the Year award, while Bantry bowler Christy Mullins will be the latest inductee into the West Cork Sports Star Hall of Fame.
Tickets for the gala banquet may be booked through the Celtic Ross Hotel on 023-8851000.
