WEST Cork badminton star Brian O’Mahony has been selected for the Irish U15 quadrangular team that will travel to Milton Keynes, London, on April 30th.

This will be Brian’s third cap for Ireland.

This past weekend, Brian – who plays for St Mary’s Badminton Club, Dunmanway – travelled to Lisburn, Northern Ireland, to compete in the U15 Celtic Challenge, where teams from Leinster, Lothian Scotland, Alpha BC Lisburn and Munster/Connacht came together to play each other over two days.

Brian played plenty of competitive badminton over the weekend. He took on the Scottish number five seed in the boys’ singles, where he remained on top for both games in the tie.

The West Cork teenager then joined up with his fellow Irish teammate Adam McAllister (Roscommon) to win the boys’ doubles.

Brian also played mixed with his mixed partner over to the weekend. Unfortunately, Munster were not in the medal.

Training continues for Brian over the next month as he prepares for the first-ever U15 All-Ireland inter-counties in Dublin. Brian is part of the Cork team that qualified for this event.
