JAMIE O’Sullivan had to dig deep to lead his team, Balls Deep, to glory in the annual Adrigole Tag Rugby Blitz on the August bank holiday weekend.

The final of this event saw Balls Deep and Super-taga-fraga-listic battle for the big prize, and after an epic contest finished 2-2 in normal-time, a five-minute period of extra-time was played with the first team to score a try winning.

And it was Balls Deep captain Jamie O’Sullivan who was the hero, finishing off from close range to seal victory.

The competition, sponsored by Marine Harvest, saw 12 teams divided into four groups, with the round-robin stages taking place at Carey’s field.

The first upset of the day saw defending champions, Tag Me If You Can, fail to get out of their group when defeated by local team Filthy Ruckers.

In the semi-finals, the Filthy Ruckers were defeated by Super-taga-fraga-listic, while Balls Deep got the better of The Tagliban in the other game.

Later that night, after the final, in the festival marquee, tournament sponsor Johnny Power (Marine Harvest) presented Balls Deep captain Jamie O’Sullivan with the trophy and team hamper.

Other prize-winners were Galway’s Sandra Gunning who won top female try-scorer (sponsored by Glengarriff Pharmacy). Top male try-scorer (sponsored by Kukri) went to New Zealand’s Matthew Smith.
