CORK South West Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Health, Jim Daly, has confirmed this lunchtime that works are to begin shortly on the €7m Bandon Water Main and Sewer Network Upgrade Project. ‘Officials in Irish Water have confirmed to that works can now begin in the coming weeks now that the contract for the Bandon Water Main and Sewer Network Upgrade project has been signed.

This €7m euro investment will significantly improve the drinking water and waste water networks for over 6,000 residents in Bandon town,’ he said. The project will involve the replacement of approximately 5km of water mains that are in poor condition with high levels of leakage. Over 2km of trunk water mains will also be installed to increase network capacity which will assist in stabilising water pressure in the town.

The proposed upgrade works to the sewer network will increase flow capacity in the system, reduce sewage discharges to the Bandon River and assist in alleviating sewer flooding such as that recently experienced in the town. In total, 5km of existing sewers will be upgraded at various locations throughout the town.
